Proverbs 31 Life

The blog is changing! I decided that because of the future opening of the etsy shop, I would change the blog address and name to be similar to that. I hope to also use the blog to attract buyers to the shop. Everything is still in transition, but the address is already different. I hope this does not confuse anyone, and thanks for checking in!

Quilting?

I have seen so many wonderful cute quilts in the craft blog world. They look like so much fun. I had just a small amount of time, towards the end of nap time, and instead of starting a whole new project, or doing something productive, I wanted to play with quilting.

I had an old tote bag, that kids at the day camp I ran years ago made for me.

I also had some scrap fabric.

I had fun piecing the scraps together, and putting them on the bag. I did not actually quilt because I did not want to take apart the bag. This was just a test run, and I did not want to put too much time into it.

Now I really want to do a quilt. There are so many fun ones out there. Like I have time for this, Ha!

2 second Pin Cushion

Surprisingly, I do not have a pin cushion. That should have been one of the first things that I made, but sticking myself in the pin box was kinda fun.

I had a mug that was part of the party favors for my baby shower in Houston, 2 years ago. It was about time I did something with that mug. (The chocolate spoon is looong gone!)

My mom made it, and it reminds me of that special day, so I knew that I wanted to use it for something special.

After filling it with stuffing and hot gluing some fabric

I have a perfect, 2 second pin cushion!

Okay, maybe it took 30 seconds, but still it was really fast! Yay for instant gratification!

Proverbs 31 Life

Before I get into how this is even craft related, lets read Proverbs 31.

Proverbs 31:10-31
10 A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.
13 She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up while it is still dark; she provides food for her family and portions for her servant girls.
16 She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
20 She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.
26 She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:
29 "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all."
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
31 Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

Don't you love the qualities of a virtuous woman? I really enjoy this passage in the Message Bible also, check it out!

I could go over every verse of this passage, but I want to call to attention verse 24, She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes.
I have been going back and forth on deciding to start an Etsy shop for some time. After studying, and spending time with the Lord one day, I decided to not eat the bread of idleness and to do it. At this time in my life, I am able to have enough time to spend making things, and I also really enjoy it, so why not?

I have spent the past month or so working on prototypes, and things for the shop. I am not ready to open yet, but it has been fun learning and getting ready. I am trying to stick to things I enjoy making, and not things I think will sell or be a mass market thing. I also want things to be handmade, not look homemade, there is a difference. This is also difficult because I really just started sewing this year.

My goals are to make enough money to keep up my crafting habit, and to also in some way bless my family. Maybe it will become Hawaii fund money. I know that God is behind what I am doing with it, so whatever happens is a blessing.

The shop name will be Proverbs31life, and I hope to post items to sell soon. In the meantime, here is a little something that I hope to perfect and sell in the shop.

A Bible cover, I am getting great use out of it.

Thank you so much for your support, and I can't wait to see what happens!

Bo-bo pack

How do you spell bo-bo? Not sure, but what I am trying to say is like an owie, or something that is hurt. A bo-bo.

Brady is two, and so we have many bo-bo's, each and every day. Always minor, but they still hurt.

The ice in ziploc bags was not working for Brady, so I decided he needed a bo-bo pack. It took about 5 minutes to make, and it heals bumps and hurts every time.

It is just two pieces of fabric sewn together, whatever size you choose. Sew the right sides together, leave a hole, cut corners, and turn out.
I also sew a zig-zag stich on the inside so there is no way rice can leak out.

Fill with rice, and sew shut.

Easy peezy. Now you just leave the pack in the freezer until needed. You can also microwave it and have a hot pack. Great use for fabric scraps, and a simple solution for bo-bo's.

Book Wreath

It is back to school time, and I wanted a back to school wreath, but I did not want it to be too back to schoolish. Does that make sense, not totally, oh well you know what I mean.

I got a dollar store wreath form, an old book from the thrift store, and I had some buttons and ribbon.

After tearing the pages out of the old book, which I cannot help but feel guilty about (sorry Horatio), I cut some of the pages in half. I then glued them to the wreath form, covering the entire wreath. This was simple and easy, I just used tacky glue because it was what I had on hand.

After the wreath was covered, I cut circles, and made a paper flower. I also glued a button in the center.

The petals of the flower, made from the circles.

First layer of petals of the flower.

Finished flower with button.

Once the flower was cute and ready I glued it on the wreath.
(Don't worry about the white glue, it dries clear, I am just too impatient to wait to take a picture.)

Finally, I attached it to the door with a simple wide ribbon.

So now we have a simple and easy back to school wreath, even if we aren't going back to school. (yet).
*Warning- Be careful how many wreaths you make. Your husband may think they and you are crazy, and get tired of them. (The wreaths, not you.) Really I just think that husband may be jealous because his hobby only involves golf clubs, and not cool stuff like a hot glue gun and scissors.:)*
