ABC art

I wanted to have some kind of art for the baby's room, but I was not ready to spend a bunch of money. I had a canvas that I had bought last year, and though I was planning on using for something else, who knows when that would happen so I thought it would be much better in the baby's room. This is really the only thing on the walls as of yet, but I will put something else up once we know what this little one is. Excitingly the baby's room is pretty much finished. Just in time huh? My personal deadline was May 1st, so I am happy that I am done.

For the ABC art I used a white canvas and used tape to make straight edges and painted the side and edges red. I used some fabric that I got from IKEA, and some heat n bond iron on adhesive to put on the letters.

I wish some of the letters showed up better, but I think you can still tell what they say. It is easier to see in person also. I really like it, and I think it adds a cute touch to the baby's room. Oh did I mention since I had everything already, it was free? Love that price.

Baby Boy Coming Home Outfit

Well, we do not know what this baby boy's name will be, but he will look cute at least! I know a ton of baby boys being born, so I am sure this will find good use if baby is a girl.

I used Made by Rae's newborn pants pattern, but altered it slightly. I really hope it fits, we will see.

The pants even have a little tag so he knows Mommy made them with love.

The onesie has a simple star applique on it. I used heat and bond, and a zig zag stitch around the edges.

Super simple, but I still think it is really cute.

Just like with the baby girl, I have a back up plan. This is honestly one of Brady's old outfits, so I will feel bad if it is a boy, and the outfit I made does not fit. Just not nearly as cute as the baby girl back up outfit.

Should not be too long now. I really cannot wait to meet this baby, and see what it is. Then the sewing can really start!

Baby Girl Coming Home Outfit

Since I haven't made enough stuff for this baby (ya right), I wanted to make some coming home outfits for the baby.  For possible baby Abigail Lynn I made the Prudent baby, 10 minute onezie dress. 

 I added a ribbon and yo-yo flower to the top of the oneszie also. It is still comfy for baby, but I think cute. I did not want the skirt super full, but if I made this again, which I will if the baby is an Abby, then I would make it much fuller.

Of course any little girl of mine will need some accessories. This headband was only 49 cents at Hobby Lobby. I added a rolled fabric flower to a barrette so that the barrette can come off.

Of course I have a back up outfit in case the dress does not fit, or if she really is a girl, she will need more clothes. This is the only girl outfit I have bought, I also got two girly gowns,but that is it. This was only $5 at Costco, how could I resist? There will be some serious shopping if this baby is a girl.

I had a daisy flower lying around, so I added that with a button to a barrette, and used my 49 cent headband.

What will I do with these things if the baby is a boy? The dress I will most likely keep and save for a future possible girl. The other outfit? Well it is a good thing I know 13 other pregnant ladies!

Only one more month until my due date! I cannot wait to meet this little one, and see if it is a boy or girl! 

Puff Baby Quilt

A long while back, when thinking about the baby's bedding and decor, I saw this amazing quilt. I loved it, and I knew that it would be great for either baby, boy or girl. I would of had one made by her, because it looked so perfect, but it was out of my price range.

Thankfully at the time she had a tutorial up on how to make one of her quilts so I saved it, and used that. Since then she has made a pattern available for sale, which I would have purchased but I had already done so much without it. I hope that one day I can purchase something from her as a  sort of thank you.

Everything was almost the same as her quilt, I think mine is a slightly different size, and I also used my striped IKEA fabric for the binding. The quilt is the same with the bumpers. Brady never slept with his baby quilt, and only recently has he started to. I am not worried about the buttons for safety of the baby because it will not be alone with the quilt at an age where it sticks things in it's mouth. Oh and also those buttons are sewn on there so well, I doubt I could pull them off. 

Sadly, like most projects this one was not without headache. I broke 3 needles, which is a new record for me. It is very comfy and puffy but also bulky, and a lot of layers to sew through. In  the end I am very happy with it, and I think it looks great in the room! 

Girl Bumper

The little girl bumper pad is very similar to the boy bumper. Because they are so similar you would think that this one would be perfect because I learned from all of my mistakes. Sadly it was just as difficult. I used some bumper forms that I bought at Joanns, which were in several pieces, not the one long piece like the boy bumper.

I used grosgrain ribbon for the ties, but everything else was the same.

In the end I think both bumpers turned out pretty cute, and the look great in the baby's room.  

Boy Bumper

When making the baby's bedding, I knew I did not want to do all gender neutral stuff so I decided to make both a boy and girl bumper. I reused Brady's old bumper pad, so that saved some money.

 I used a car fabric form IKEA that matches the primary colors in the rest of the room. It was not very hard to do, but it was quite hard to sew. I sewed each piece encasing the bumper pad, and then added the binding around all edges. Even with a presser foot for my sewing machine it was very thick and cumbersome to sew.

 Lastly I added the ties, made from the stripe fabric, and sewed down the bumper at all the places where the bumper would be at a corner in the crib. It is definitely not perfect, and if you look closely you can see many imperfections. It was quite a learning experience, and you would think it would have made the 2nd, girl bumper easier. I didn't.
But, the baby will probably never sleep with the bumper on the crib. The first few moths baby will be in our room in a bassinet. Once baby moves into it's crib, for safety we use a separate special breathable bumper. And therefore this is for pure decoration purposes only.

Regardless, I think it is super cute, and it looks great in the room. Just a few more things and the room will be all pulled together. Check back for the girl version of the bumper.

Disney Shirts

These little projects were kinda a fail, but Brady liked them, so I guess that is all that matters. I wanted him to have a special shirt to wear to Disneyland on our trip last week. Little girls can wear cute princess outfits, but boys do not have many options. (Kinda glad, we saved a ton of time skipping princess nonsense.) So I made him two shirts to wear for his first Disney trip.

The first shirt was an iron on transfer that I made on the computer and printed out. Sadly the iron transfer was not good at all. After my second try I just gave up really, and made it work. It was stuff I had on hand, but really terrible, and did not work. I am sure there is something better out there...anyone have any suggestions? The entire thing peeled off by the end of the day, but it served it's purpose, and Brady still has a white shirt for something else. 

What was on the shirt

The second shirt was Buzz Lightyear fabric in the shape of mickey's ears fused to the shirt. I just did fabric paint around the edges instead of applique, due to time constraints, and I know he will not wear it much. 

I forgot to take a picture of the shirt, but you can kind of see it in this picture.

He was so excited to be at Disneyland, that no matter what we dressed him in it would have been great. He really did like his shirts, though, and for that smile I would make millions more! 

Crib Skirt

Since I did not find exactly what I wanted for crib bedding choices, I made most of the baby's bedding myself. I was able to save a ton of money by using a lot of Brady's old baby bedding, and I used nice but cost effective Ikea fabric.

The first thing I made was a crib skirt. Brady's old crib skirt had pleats in it, but to make it easier, I left out the pleats. I re-used the white part that goes under the mattress, and just added the four panels of Ikea fabric, making sure to finish the edges. It was so easy, and it matches perfectly with everything else I made/ am making.

I forgot to take pictures before I put it on the crib, but energy is too important to me to take it off and put it on again for a picture. Trust me, it looks cute!

I am excited to show off the rest of the bedding sometime late next week. Until then I will be enjoying a magical vacation, hope you all have a great week!
