Girls Night

I have been wanting to start having monthly girls nights. I eventually want to have a group of ladies to craft with and just be girly with. The first night was double duty. Girls night, while also helping out my friend Cathy who is starting out her Mary Kay biz. I wanted desserts and lots of them, so I knew I was not going to want to wear tight cute pants. I wanted the coziest clothes I could think of, so I decided on a Pajama party!

Only Problem with that is, I did not have any cute Pj's. I typically just wear an old t shirt or maybe some sweat pants. But that isn't fun, so I had to have some new ones. Christmas is coming, money is tight, and I have a ton of fabric, sooo that results in making some pants.

Actually made them into Capri's. I think they are pretty cute. I really like the soft satin ribbon bow. The picture on the other hand....

I sort of looked over this tute before I started, but I kind of just went with it.

They aren't perfect, one leg needs to be fixed, but good enough!

Perfect for my fun evening with the girls.
We had, Peanut butter cookie sandwiches. So good! Recipe here...

Oreo Truffles, Cheesecake stuffed Strawberries, Some Popcorn

And just a good time with Pjs, make up, and friends. One thing I forgot to mention... Because a lot of my girl friends husbands are deployed or out of town, we had kids come also. There ended up being 11 kids, 10 of them boys! It was a crazy mad house. Still fun though! (Next time, no kids!)

Scrap Ruffle Necklace

I recently saw a necklace on pintrest and I really liked it. (Her shop is very cute by the way, I will take any of those items!)
I knew that it really could not be all that hard to make, so I tried it. It turned out really well, not as good as hers, but still pretty good for free.
I started with a necklace I was not using, and a fabric scrap. I think it was about 2 1/2" wide and 8" long.
Because I used a fabric that frays very easily, I first used a zig-zag stitch to prevent further fraying.
Now we can sew our ruffle.  I used  a 1/4" seam allowance, and folded the fabric in half.
Use the normal extra long stitch, and pull one thread to create a ruffle. Once the ruffle is the desired length, the ends can be tied off, so the ruffle does not come out. Now you can simply use a safety pin to thread the necklace through the ruffle, and you are done.
Now you can trade out that ruffle to match any outfit. I like to wear my navy ruffle necklace with a salmon colored tank, and navy cargo pants. So many options, and it adds just a little cuteness.

The non-diaper bag

First off, if you are here via a link party, thanks for stopping by, and I hope you stay a little while and have a look around!

Before Brady was born I received an amazing coach diaper bag from my mother and sis in laws. I loved/love it, and have gotten so much use out of it. Recently I had started to want a little change. Something a little different. I love that bag, but since I also use it as a purse, I wanted a little something new after all this time. Something that could function as a diaper bag, but looks a little more like a purse.
I decided to use some fabric that I had been saving for something special. I love this fabric. It was my first try at really making my own pattern. I typically go off of something I saw online, or a pattern I got somewhere. I think it turned out pretty well. I would change it slightly, like the way the pleats turned out, but not too much.
The lining inside has a large zipper pocket on one side.
And two large pockets on the other side. With my label of course.
Making it work, I used a fabric covered button and loop for a closure, but next time I would do a magnetic closure.
It has a long over the body (or stroller) strap, and two shorter shoulder straps.
So I really like it, and the price is pretty amazing.
Best part, it still fits all of this nonsense in there, with room to grow!
I have gotten one compliment on it, and I will admit, it feels good when you know you made it all! So what do you think? Old lady-ish, or kinda cute?

Flower pom pom necklace

I saw a tutorial via pintrest for a pom pom necklace. I was wanting to make something similar, so the tutorial gave me some inspiration.
Because I am in my no fabric buying, make it work phase, I cut up an old yellow tshirt I never wore and used that. I also used an old cheapy chain I have not worn in years.
I think it is really cute.
I had a specific outfit in mind for this necklace.
Our family pictures.
I love them and cannot wait to get them all hung up and framed.
My whole life right there! <3

5 minute hair clip

Last weekend while getting ready to go out to dinner with some friends. I thought my hair needed a little something extra. I decided to quickly make a little flower clip. It took me about 5 minutes, with taking pictures, and both boys were awake!
First you will need a few supplies. I had all of these on hand so it cost me nothing!
I always save all of my bobby pins each time I get an updo, so I never need to buy those. The satin fabric was from the lining of a dress that I shortened for a friend. And everything else was in my stash.

First you cut your satin to the size circles you like, I think the less perfect the better. Cut concentric circles, so that you will be able to see the layers, I cut 6.

Then you gently burn the edges. I like to use a candle, because it seems safer, and I never have been good at working lighters. If your circle catches on fire, that's okay just quickly burn them out.

Now you can start hot gluing the layers down. Just a small amount in the middle will do. Start with your biggest circle and go smaller. On top of your last circle, glue a little jewel or you could also hand sew some seed beads. That would be very cute, but might take more than 5 minutes, and when you are already running late...

After your flower is done, simply glue it to a bobby pin or even a clip. Mine was sloppy, but who will see?
Put it in your hair and you are ready to go!
Speaking of hair, I love doing my hair this way. I have been looking for cute ways to put up my hair, since it is always up anyway. I saw this hairstyle on I am Momma here me roar, and tried it. It looks great, keeps me cool, takes 5 minutes, and I can do it right out of the shower.

(Pre make up)

Saturday night after we got home, I did this heatless curls trick to my hair for church the next morning. And it looked great too. Love how blogs provide me with such great ideas!

Glamma's Purse

Seems that I should be blogging a ton since I am constantly sitting here, feeding a precious little baby. But one handed typing is really hard, and somehow he knows when I am not holding him with two hands. SO worth it.

I did get some sewing done last week while my mom was visiting. I could totally have a live in Grandma these first few weeks. Now she is gone :( I will really miss her, but I am so thankful for technology and skype.

Because of where she lives, out of the country, we are only able to send cards and letters, no packages. So when she came for her visit we were finally able to give her belated birthday and mother's day gifts.

I had started to make a purse a while ago, but it was looking like something for a tweenager, so I gave up and started a new.

I used this pattern for the bag, and I really liked it. I think I will make one for myself when I have some time.
All pictures where taken very fast, while holding a 3 week old, so no judging. Oh and the hubby admitted our camera is terrible, so I could have him convinced to buy a new one soon!
The lining is pretty cute too, and it could even be reversible.
For the clutch/wallet I used this pattern. It was also a great tutorial, and easy to follow. Not as perfect as I would want, but pretty good for the first time.
In it was a gift card to one of our favorite shopping places, the outlet mall. We spent over 6 hours shopping there with a 3 year old, and 3 week old, but it was worth it!

A fun gift and a great visit, can't wait to see her again!

4th of July necklace

I truly love the Fourth of July. Summer, fun, fireworks, BBQ, what's not to love? This year I wanted to spice up my typical 4th wardrobe, so I made a necklace with things I had around the house.

I think I like it, but I am not quite sure.

Just simple beads, with ribbon tie.

I really like the flower

It is on a pin, so I can take it off the necklace and use on a cardigan or something else.

So what do you think? Super tacky, and I should not wear it, or kinda cute in a patriotic kinda way?

Alterations

A while ago I posted about some shorts on my personal blog. Well I got the shorts, three pair actually. That day was a great shopping trip, I got 3 pairs of shorts, a pair of jeans and a shirt for $16! I am a bargain hunter I tell you!

So the shorts were so cheap because they were a size 14. Which is fine but a little large for me. I just had to have them for $1.88, plus %40 off that, so I altered them. It wasn't too hard, and I am happy with how they turned out. They are not too big, but they are also not short and skin tight like the ones my size would have been.

I hope to try them out this weekend, in Vegas! We are going for my sweet hubby's 30th birthday, and I am super excited. This will be the first time I am without Brady for more than 5 hours, not counting sleeping time, so it will be hard for me. But I am so excited to relax with my best friend and have nice peaceful meals.

Maybe I will get some better pics this weekend, but it is hard, I am definitely not a model.

Jerm laughed saying he was blinded by the whiteness of my legs! I agree, but no worries, I just sprayed some self tanner on, and hopefully no one will be blinded.

I also found a super cheap bathing suit, years ago, I think before Brady was born. For some reason, I bought a small top and a large bottom, probably all they had on clearance. I had no business buying a bikini at the time, but it has been a goal of mine to wear it. Thankfully the bottoms are now too big, but once again I like the coverage they have. So to ensure that they wouldn't fall off I took them in too. I did not cut any part of the suit just in case something comes undone. It was super easy.

And I think they were %50 off that price!

Sorry, you couldn't pay me enough to model a bathing suit!

Not perfect, but I am pretty sure no one will notice.

And really, don't worry if you will be in Vegas this weekend, I have a super cute cover up to hide under!

Won't be crafting in Vegas, but I will share more stuff when we get back. Have an awesome weekend!
