Thankful for Toilet Paper

We are Thankful for toilet paper rolls that is. I bet you thought I had forgotten all about my toilet paper roll projects, huh? I have not, and I am excited to start sharing some of them with you again.

We are a VERY blessed family, and I love that it is our focus this month. We are always thankful, but it is nice to be extra thankful during this time. So we made an advent calendar that we can write on each day what we are thankful for. On Thanksgiving, which is at house so I better start cleaning now, we will reread all of our things that we are thankful for. Brady is so cute in what he comes up with.

This project is easy, and cheap! You only need a few things.

I used a foam board that I bought from the dollar store, and painted it yellow. I like that I can see the brush strokes.
I needed 24 little pockets, so I cut toilet paper rolls in half. I did not have enough toilet paper rolls, so I had to also cut down some paper towel rolls. I painted them black, put on a number scrapbooking sticker, and then painted them the color I wanted.
Once they were dried, I glued one end, and glued them on the foam board. I added a little something at the top, and some cute owl ribbon I had. Each day we add something we are thankful for in that day's slot. The numbers might change for next year, but we can just start 24 days from Thanksgiving.
We are having fun time with it, and I think it is a great November tradition. Does your family have any thankful traditions?
Make sure you take a look back at some of the other toilet paper roll projects, and hopefully there will be more soon to come.

Tp roll updates

Hi! I am still here! Do you ever need a sort of unplugged break? Sometimes I do. So that is what I have been up to for a few days. I am still crafting up some goodies, as always. I have run out of toilet paper rolls, so I am sort of at a stand still. Don't worry, we should have more soon.

In the meantime, how about we look at some awesomeness from other toilet paper crafters?

And lastly check out this blog fully dedicated just to toilet paper roll crafts.
I really hope you are saving those rolls!

Fall Tree Pillow with TP roll Leaves

My usage of toilet paper rolls in crafting is becoming a little obssesive, but at least it is free! Our recent craft was made by both Brady and I, and I love it! I am not really ready for fall, even though it is probably my favorite time of year. This pillow helped me out, and I think I am now ready to get out some fall decorations, and I am looking forward to all of our fun fall traditions.
For our pillow we used some canvas type fabric, it is pretty tough stuff. Not really comfy, but resilent, and worked great with the paints we used.
To start I painted Brady's arm and hand brown and we stamped the fabric so that it looked like the base of our tree.
This is when Brady got side tracked, it happens easily, so he decided to paint some fabric of his own. He made a nice pillow, with jingle bells in it, out of the fabric.
Meanwhile, I used sections of a toilet paper roll to stamp leaves all around my tree. I did one color at a time, and used green, red, teal, and yellow.
I let each color dry before starting a new one.

You can speed up this process with a blow dryer. (Brady paints in his underwear. This stuff stains, and I have enough laundry with my precious, explosive pooping baby.)
My favorite part is the heart with the Y, for our last name, and the year on the tree. I did this with a toothpick.
Once all is dry, I added some ribbon along the top and bottom that my Mom got me from Russia, isn't it pretty?
I sewed it all together, with an invisable zipper at the bottom, so that it can fit on our current couch pillows.
And there it is, all done. A fall pillow, and it can be used year after year, and since it is just a cover, it will not take up too much storage space.
Anyone else gearing up for fall?

Toilet Paper Roll Hearts

On with the toilet paper roll series. I have been having so much fun seeing all the different ways I can use toilet paper rolls. I need more toilet paper rolls for everything I have planned!

I recently started a picture wall in our house. I wanted to add a few things that were not just pictures, but had a little meaning, and I also wanted to add a bit of teal.
I used a few tp rolls, scissors, and a glue gun. When cutting the sections, I made sure they were all even.

I started by making some larger circles. By cutting the sections in half I could then glue them together to make a larger circle.

After making a larger circle, I shaped them into hearts and glued them making sure they would stay.

Now you could do whatever you wish with your hearts.
Paint them red and hang them for valentines day.

Make a heart pyramid.
Or make a heart wreath.
I chose to make a heart wreath. I even chose to have 7 hearts for a reason. Silly as it may sound. There are 4 in our family. Two dogs. And we someday will add another little blessing to our family. So that makes 7.
After I glued the hearts together, and had them the way I wanted, I painted the wreath with some acrylic paint. (I could have saved so much time and spray painted it, I even have the same color in spray paint. But, sometimes I like to just sit and mindlessly paint something. Therapy.)
So what do you think? Look okay, or is it looking like trash up on the wall. Either way, I like it for now. I am almost done with my photo wall, and I am really liking it. I will take better pictures when it is all done.

I have some more Toilet paper roll art planned for our bedroom, so make sure you check back soon!

Toilet Paper Roll Wreath

If you are here from a link party, welcome! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you are able to stay awhile, and take a look around.

The first project in the series on toilet paper roll crafts is a toilet paper roll wreath.
My inspiration was this faux rosewood wreath I have been wanting for forever. It is so lovely, and from my fav target. Even though it is pretty inexpensive, it is still more than free!
First step was to save up a bunch of toilet paper rolls. Then I cut them into about thirds.
Once I had quite a few third pieces of toilet paper rolls, I was ready to cut them into spirals. Once they were cut I could curl them back around on themselves to make little rosebuds. I started to place the rosebuds around a dollar store wreath form that I already had.

Once I had what looked enough rosebuds, I started hot gluing them on, to cover the wreath form. They are pretty much all different sizes, so it does not look exactly the same all over.
Last step is to spray paint it your color of choice. I choose a white, but I had it on hand. If it was my perfect world, I would have done a cream or more natural white. I even like it un-painted, in the natural cardboardish colors.
After it is painted, you can hang it up with a ribbon, and you are done!
Pretty awesome for free huh?
Make sure you come back to check out the rest of the toilet paper roll projects in the near future.
